During World War II, on September 23^rd, 1939 the last live concert was broadcast on Polish radio before Germany invaded Warsaw.

Pianist Wladyslaw Szpilman was playing this very etude and later wrote in his autobiography:

“That day, a few minutes after 3 pm, Polish radio fell silent”
